The 2011 Cambodia Mission Trip Team

Hayley Megan French

I travelled to Cambodia in 2008 and have felt drawn back ever since. After volunteering with Destiny Rescue in 2009 and 2010, I am very excited to be going with a team from our church in January 2011. I am encouraged and motivated by our church’s work for social justice and look forward to what this passion will bring for all of us in the future.

Warren French

Husband to Judy for 31 years, father to Kristin, Bradon and Hayley and grandfather to Elijah. I have been involved at North Rocks Church since 1995.

I am Friends with Dave Nash (on Facebook)!

I have felt the call to take action against poverty in a practical way this year and signed up for the Cambodia Mission Trip in response.

Margaret Sweeney.

I live in North Rocks and have been worshiping here at North Rocks Community church for over 20 years where my faith has grown and been nurtured by many. This will be my 1st mission trip and I am looking forward to what it is God has planned for me.  I am a mother to 2 sons and grandma to 3 wonderful grandchildren.

Rachel Collis

Rachel is 29 years old and works as a high school teacher and freelance musician. She is married to Steve and together they play a large role in morning church worship!

Judy French

One of my greatest passions is to work with children to see them grow and develop, encouraging them to be the best that they can be and empowering them to make a difference in the world.  As I enjoy every moment with my grandson Elijah, my heart aches for these little children in Cambodia, some of whom I had the great fortune to meet several years ago.  This mission trip hopefully gives me the opportunity to assist in a small way, some of the children in the Day Care and Learning Centre’s to rise above poverty and move toward a more positive future for themselves, their families and their country.

Pip Corderoy

Pip is in her 30’s and is passionate about helping others to be better people and see that they can make a difference in the world. She is looking forward to travelling to Cambodia with the Church team in January. She also wants world peace and for her country to keep moving forward!

Ann-Elise Koerntjes

Ann-Elise currently serves as Community Development worker here at North Rocks as well as teaching in Theology and Social Engagement at Alphacrucis College. She is looking forward to helping bring joy to the children of Cambodia and hope to the communities there. Bring on the adventure!

Phil Swain

Married to Marion, father of 3 wonderful kids and NRCC church minister.  I have always had a passion for making a difference.  As a young person I experienced the amazing change that Jesus brought to my life and wanted to tell as many people as I could that Jesus could make a difference in their lives too.  Over the past 10 years I have had a growing awareness that sharing Jesus with others is more than telling people about Jesus, it is also about making a practical difference in world.  For me, part of what it means to follow Jesus is to make a stand against injustice, to reach out to those who are suffering and to help bring an end to issue such as poverty.  Being part of this mission trip to Cambodia in 2011 seemed to be the right next step of my learning and growing in this area.

I am also passionate about involving the whole church as part of this experience too and invite you to learn with me.  In the preparation before the trip, during the trip and when we return, I hope to share with people about my hopes, fears, challenges and discoveries.  I hope that together as a church we can make a real and lasting difference to the faith and lives of the people in this small area of Cambodia, in the name of Jesus!

I have not experienced anything like this before, so I am a little anxious about culture shock.  I am also a person who loves to talk to I am worried how I will go in a place where not many people speak English.  I ask for you to pray for me, that I will be open to learning and growing through this experience, that the funds that I need to go will come and that I will be able to include the whole church in this experience.

Mikey Groom

Currently I Lead Worship, play in the Worship Band, on the Property and Technology Teams, Involved in Carols as an Event Co-ordinator.  I have been involved in a previous NRCC Mission overseas trip before and really enjoyed it and grew spiritually and mentally while I was over there and have had itchy feet to get on board with another one.  The Cambodia option came up at a time which made sense to me and my life stage, and I was lucky enough to be able to commit to the project.  I'm really looking forward to going to Cambodia and supporting the work of Destiny Rescue and feel that my involvement is a testament to my commitment to furthering the work of NRCC and its aims to support the removal of social injustice in this world, both locally and globally.

I'm passionate about Jesus and the Youth.  I'm always trying to find new ways to allow our young people to connect with our God.  I aim to bring and display Jesus in my day to day living, by the way I conduct myself with people.  I play in a band outside church which has the same morals and ideas, so it helps when I'm out and about.

Trent Critchley

I am a high school science teacher. I moved temporarily to Orange for a job in term one…and haven’t yet returned! I believe Jesus calls us to a faith that we must think, feel, speak and act on. The trip to Cambodia represents an opportunity for me to “show my faith by what I do” (James 2:18).

Jonathan Critchley

Jonno is 21 years old and highly involved in the music team at Nite Rocks. He works as a porter at Norwest Private Hospital. Jonno has a passion for mission and was very excited at the opportunity to join the North Rocks team to go to Cambodia.
