Position Description

POSITION TITLE:

Community Development and Pastoral Worker.

LOCATION:

North Rocks Community Church (Uniting Church)

POSITION PURPOSE:

CDPW is responsible for:

1.

Providing pastoral care and leadership across the two worshipping communities, including the development of leadership and community connections

2

Overseeing the Children and Youth Ministry of the church

 

3.

Providing pastoral leadership and coordinate the evening worship service

 

RELATIONSHIPS:

 

Reports to:

Church Council through the Minister

EMPLOYER PROFILE:

We have a strong history of ministry to children, youth & families, with a focus looking beyond our own church and a growing awareness of social justice and environmental issues. SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.

Provide pastoral leadership for the leadership teams including developing and running quarterly leadership training meetings

2.

Identify and develop new leaders

3.

Facilitate the development of pastoral care strategies in the congregation in conjunction with existing team.

4.

Provide leadership for the Evening worship community including preaching

6.

Teach Scripture in schools during school terms

7.

Involvement in the coordination of the Carols in the Park yearly event

8.

Read and understand the Basis of Union and have a preparedness to work within the polity and ethos of the Uniting Church in Australia as described in the Basis of Union.

 

9.

Abide by the discipline processes as set out in the Constitution and Regulation of the Uniting Church and the Code of Ethics and Ministry Practice adopted by the National Assembly as they relate to ministerial practice.

 

10.

Abide by the requirements of the Uniting Church Regulations in relation to the lay specified ministry of Pastor.

 

11.

Read and understand the Basis of Union and have a preparedness to work within the polity and ethos of the Uniting Church in Australia as described in the Basis of Union

·                     Ability to keep a number of activities on track concurrently.  Excellent personal time management, planning and control skills.

 

·                     Ability to provide pastoral care

 

·                     Excellent oral communication, presentation, negotiation and discussion skills

 

·                     Experience in leading worship

 

·                     Capacity to work with leadership teams

Person Specific:

·                     A team player who also knows how to manage their own business activities and time

 

·                     Ability to recognise the importance of attention to detail and following through on commitments

 

·                     Adaptability and flexibility, with a can do attitude.

 

·                     Relationship building and persuasiveness.

 

·                     An openness to Social Justice and environmental issues.

 

·                     Demonstrate the core competencies determined by the Ministerial Education Commission as essential for all persons that exercise the lay specified ministry of Pastor


 

POSITION SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS/WORK EXPERIENCE:

Essential:

·                     Experience in Pastoral Care

 

·                     Experience in leading Worship

 

·                     Experience in working with Youth Group Leaders
